The Parks 16" f/4 & f/18 Hybrid Integrated Telescope (HIT) is really two telescopes in one: a fast f/4 Newtonian and sharp f/18 Cassegrain.
The ultra fast, rich-field (f/4) reflector mode combines large aperture and a wide field of view to deliver breathtaking views of globular clusters, open clusters, nebulae and galaxies. This mode is perfect for deep sky visual and photographic applications. Astro-photographers will appreciate the extremely fast photographic performance the f/4 design delivers.
The long focal length (f/18) classical Cassegrain mode is ideal for high magnification, high-resolution observing and photography. The Cassegrain mode delivers stunning planetary, lunar, solar and double-star images.
Parks HIT Observatory Systems are supplied with two secondary mirrors: Newtonian and Cassegrain. Both come with their own holder with guide pins. Just take out one Secondardary Assembly and slide in the other one in. The bolts, guidepins and baseplate in the spider assure proper position. The switch can be performed in just minutes, without the need for recollimation.
All mirrors are ground, polished, and hand figured completely in-house for diffraction-limited results. The optics are mounted in a genuine Parks low thermal conductive fiberglass tube. The tube provides room around the mirror for air movement without disturbing the images. A large 8x50 right angle/straight-through finderscope is standard, as is a 2" rack and pinion focuser with 1.25" adapter. The primary mirror cell and secondary mirror holder are adjustable for alignment purposes. The rotating ring system allows convenient re-positioning of the eyepiece or camera, depending on the location of the target.
The observatory mount is equipped with a "state-of-the-art" electronic clock drive/drive corrector. This electronic system includes: internal circuitry for dual-axis corrections; lunar, solar, and sidereal rate selections; variable speed adjustments; and a reversing declination switch. The worm gear in the clock drive disengages for easy and precise balancing of the telescope. Spring-loaded clutch plates are adjustable.
As supplied, the telescope may be powered by either 12 VDC or 120 VAC. A cigarette plug adapter can be interfaced with either battery clip adapters or the 120-volt power supply.
The declination axis features an exclusive tangent arm system, which allows electronic and manual slow motion tracking. Includes a spring loaded, quick release/centering device with anti-backlash.
